ZILLAH —Zillah Community Day won’t have a carnival this year, but community leaders are working hard to see that that loss is more than made up for by a lot more community involvement.
Zillah Chamber president Ken Waymire said last week that changes in event schedules in Granger made it impossible to arrange for the carnival’s appearance in Zillah this year.
So, plans are underway to recruit a wide variety of local booths and other participation for the event, which will be held May 9.
“We’re looking for church groups and clubs to participate,” said Waymire. “We want to make it a community event.”
He said he’d like to see a dunk booth and face-painting booth, and perhaps a flea market during the afternoon hours.
He said a cake walk and bingo are being planned, but he stressed that more volunteers are needed to make the event a success.
“We’d like to have a lot of things for the kids,” Waymire said.
He said the parade will be held as usual, as well as the community breakfast sponsored by the Lions Club, but he wasn’t sure about the 5K or the 10 K run for 2009.
“We’d like to have a nice replacement for the carnival,” said Waymire.
Those interested in serving as volunteers for Community Days, or interested in providing a booth for the event are encouraged to contact Waymire at Zillah Pro Hardware, at 829-6888, Clayton Barr at 829-5676, or “Mo” Moszeter, 509-930-9735.
