WAPATO — Wapato Middle School hosted the 27th annual ‘CUF’ Cultural Unity Fair on Thursday. The many cultures comprised of the Wapato community gathered together to celebrate their individual cultures and how they live with each other in unity.
“This is strictly a middle school event,” Administrator Tim Fauth said. “Students of the various clubs organized the entire event.
“In the past, it’s been a lot bigger; we toned it down this year to make it more manageable so the students can handle it.”
People from all over the community came out to support the school and the event. Students like Amanda Velazquez, a freshman at Wapato High School, appreciate and are thankful for the culture in their community. From parents of the students, to former students people came to celebrate the event together, an estimated 500-700 people attended the event, Fauth said.
Velazquez said, “CUF shows all the different cultures in my community, from the dances, food and desserts, I think everyone has a lot of fun.”
She said Wapato is full of different culture, “and its fun that we can all come together.”
Clubs that participated include MECHA, the Indian club, and AYO: Asian Youth Organization, Euro Club, and Cub Club.
