GRANGER — The 2009 Granger Royalty will serve and represent the Granger community with the support of their family.
Ismael Torres, the father of Miss Granger, Jessica Torres said, “I am so proud of her, and honored to have her as my queen, even if she would not have won, she will always be our queen.”
Antonia Torres, her mother, said, “We are so excited for her.”
“I can’t believe it!” Jessica Torres said after being crowned Miss Granger. “My parents are really rooting for me in this.”
Torres and the Granger princesses are excited to serve their community as close friends.
“This process has brought all of us closer together,” first princess Kayla Resendez said.
The annual Miss Granger Pageant was held at Granger Middle School on Friday.
Lions Club members volunteered at the ticket counter for the event. One member, Janie Cardenas said, “The attendance was lower this year because the pageant was held almost three weeks earlier than normal.”
“About 250 people attended the pageant,” Yolanda Alegria, Lions Club member said.
“Dance the Night Away,” the night’s theme, began with casual modeling, then individual talents, evening gown modeling, and ended with the impromptu questionnaire. In between acts, the 2008 Granger Royalty performed, and said farewell to their crowned positions.
“The girls did a really good job,” Ida Valenzuela, Lions Club member said.
The Lions club members report the 2009 Granger Royalty will spend much of their year volunteering and representing the city of Granger at a variety of functions and events.
