Three students from the Zillah and Wapato school districts have emerged as regional award winners in the annual Educational Service District 105 School Bus Poster Contest.
More than 100 kindergarten through 8th grade students from the two school districts produced posters for this year’s contest.
The three winning posters will advance to the state competition, which will be held on Aug. 2, during the Washington Association for Pupil Transportation’s Annual Conference in Spokane.
The three regional winners, who each received $25, are:
First grader Alexia Rucker from Wapato’s Adams Elementary in the kindergarten-2nd grade division. Alexia’s teacher is Terra Reise.
Third grader Isabel Gonzalez from Zillah’s Hilton Elementary School in the 3rd grade-5th grade division. Isabel’s teacher is Jana Winters.
Sixth grader Jorge Barragan from Zillah Intermediate School in the 6th grade-8th grade division. Jorge’s teacher is Tim Strother.
The Washington Association for Pupil Transportation (WAPT) sponsors the bus poster contest every year to encourage school bus safety and to teach children the importance of following the rules of riding a bus.
