The PRCA Rodeo presented in conjunction with the Yakima Valley Fair will be reigned over this year by Misty Mahkee of Toppenish.
Competition for the honor included horsemanship, public speaking, impromptu questions, and appearance.
She is the daughter of the late Elston Mahkee, of Zuni, NM, and Michelle and Richard Trevino of Toppenish.
Mahkee is a 2009 graduate of Toppenish High School.
While in school, she was involved in soccer, track, and also served as treasurer of the Kiamikun Indian Club.
She was chosen to be the 2008 Youth Chair for the Relay on the Rez held annually in Toppenish.
Mahkee has traveled extensively this year representing the fair and rodeo, with her horse, Satus, and her back-up horse, P.J.
The PRCA rodeo held during the fair attracts some of the nation’s top cowboys and cowgirls.
There will also be a four special horse events for all ages. These events are open for horse riders to compete in and demonstrate their riding and driving skills.
These are the Gaming Show, Horse Show, Team Pull and Charros.
The Pony Express Gaming Show is new to the fair this year, and include timed competitions such as Barrel Racing, Pole Bending and Idaho 8.
The Horse Show includes a variety of events such as dressage, showmanship, pleasure, driving, and others, and are open to the public and to 4-H club exhibitors.
The events will follow Washington State and Yakima County 4-H rules which include the mandatory use of helmets.

The Horse Team Pull features large draft teams, which will pull sleds 20 feet with a starting weight of 2,000 lbs. increasing up to as much as 8,000 lbs.
The fair is also seeking local teamsters with any size or breed of horses, including minis and ponies, that would like to compete in the pull, give carriage rides or put on driving exhibitions.

Another new competition that’s open to public competitors is the Charros event, also known as dancing horses.
Charro horsemanship traditionally comes from Mexico and has been passed from generation to generation.
The PRCA Rodeo will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7 and 8, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Yakima Valley Fair will be held Aug. 5 through 8, at the County Park fairgrounds, 812 Wallace Way in Grandview.
