Valley prepares for Trick-or-Treating

Local Halloween activities include:
Toppenish
• The Northern Pacific Railroad is hosting a Halloween haunted train and pumpkin run. The haunted train rides will be Oct. 29, 30, and 31 from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be ghostly ghouls, goblins and other haunted Halloween characters inside the haunted depot and two haunted railcars. Admission is $5 per person. The event is for those age 13 and older.
As a fun activity for younger children, the museum is having a pumpkin run for children age 12 and under on Halloween, Sat. Oct. 31. The pumpkin run will include a caboose ride, museum tours and a free pumpkin for each child who takes part in the pumpkin run activity. Cost for the pumpkin run is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

• Children have until noon on Halloween, Oct. 31 to enter the annual Halloween coloring contest. The free, local event is sponsored by Michelle’s 88-Cent Store in Toppenish.
Children can stop by the store at 101 S. Toppenish Ave., and select one of three coloring pictures – Dora, Snoopy or Hello Kitty. Halloween pictures will be judged on neatness, creativity and originality.
The winner in each category will receive a variety of prizes including candy, toys and coloring books. The contest is open to children through age 18. The winners will be announced at the store on Halloween.

Wapato
• Emerald Care in Wapato is hosting its annual Trick or Treat and Game Night for area children on Halloween, Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. Children are welcome to wear their costumes to the facility, where residents will be handing out candy. Three games will be set up – palm reading, the enchanted Halloween garden and the creepy crawly booth. Games will be $1 each and are for children age four to 12.
All proceeds from the games will be used to enhance Emerald Care patient activity programs. Emerald Care is at 209 N. Ahtanum Ave. in Wapato.

• Yakama Nation Housing Authority is presenting a Haunted Forest fundraising project to benefit the Wapato homeless center. The Haunted Forest will be Oct. 29 and 30 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Apas Community Center, 617 Larena Lane in Wapato. Admission will be $2 per person or three cans or other non-perishable items that will be donated to Noah’s Ark Homeless Shelter in Wapato. Zillah
• The Zillah Chamber of Commerce and the Zillah Nazarene Church will have its third annual “Trunk or Treat” on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in downtown Zillah. The event is open to the public and will be at the large graveled parking lot across from Zillah Hardware and Zillah Drug Store on First Avenue.
Events will include decorated car trunks. Children will be able to trick or treat around the decorated cars. There will also be coffee, hot chocolate and free popcorn.
