The Toppenish Rodeo will be back in the saddle next year, but the particulars are not yet clear.
“We are going to be holding an event,” said Rodeo Association vice-president Barb Moses. “What it will look like is yet to be determined.”
Still up in the air are the number of days for the event, whether or not there will be a carnival, who the stock contractor will be, and perhaps even the date on which the rodeo will be held.
Moses said she was uncertain when all the details will be finalized, but she expected to be able to provide more information over the next couple of months.
She said the association is currently looking for event sponsors, and contacts are being made to arrange those.
The event was awarded $5,000 from the city’s room tax proceeds to be used for promotion.
A fund-raising dinner and auction will be held Nov. 21, at the Toppenish Eagles, beginning at 6 p.m., and the proceeds will be used to help support the event, Moses said.
She said the association is looking forward to the return of the traditional event.
“We feel really good about it,” she said.
She also expressed her appreciation for the community support for the event, even though it hasn’t been held for the last two years because of financial difficulties.
This year, a one-day rodeo was put on by Dan Beard, to help keep the July Fourth event alive.
The Rodeo Association has plans to significantly increase the use of the rodeo grounds as a means to provide for its upkeep and maintenance.
A key part of that plan is to complete the large community center building on the grounds, which will make suitable for a variety of special events.
