Citizens Protecting Resources has announced the launch of a new Web site related to the group’s action against Yakima County to stop the relocation of the Douglas Auto Wrecking site.

CPR filed suit near the beginning of the month seeking to force the county to halt work being done at the yard’s new 10-acre location, which is adjacent to the I-82 interchange near Donald Road.

The group contends that the relocation violates the state constitution regarding the gifting of public funds, despoils the scenic beauty of the area, and poses a contamination hazard to area wells.

The Douglas yard is now located on an island in the Yakima River a few miles away.

County commissioners have maintained that the relocation process, which began several years ago, adhered to all required steps and provided for public input.

The county will trade the new 10-acre site for the river property assessed at $28,700. CPR claims the county will “advance or pay more than $625,000” for the site.

The new CPR Web site is found at www.citizensprotectingresources.org.
