Toppenish city employees were recognized with service pins denoting a decade or more of employment at the last city council meeting of the year, Dec. 14.
Receiving their 10-year service pins were Judy Devall, station manager for MidValley Television, Fire Chief Tim Smith, and police detective Robert Salinas.
Public works general manager Ken Rathbun and police dispatcher Sheryl Newman received 15-year pins.
Also honored was city councilman Bill Rogers, who served a total of 28 years and four months as a council member and as mayor.
Rogers decided to give up his council seat after being elected to the Toppenish School Board in November.
In other business, the council officially designated the Review Independent as the official newspaper for the city, for publication of all official notices the city is required to publish.
Council members also approved final acceptance of the repairs to the alley behind the Toppenish Post Office between Jefferson and Washington streets.
The council also approved the bid of Huylar Construction to make repairs and upgrades to the roof of the building that houses part of the police department and city jail.
Total price of the repairs and upgrades is $48,552.
The next regular meeting of the council will be Jan. 11, at 7 p.m. in the city hall council chambers. The Dec. 28 council meeting was cancelled.
A council study session will take place Jan. 4, beginning at 5 p.m., in the council chambers.
