Resolution – another word for a declaration, a pledge, a promise, a vow or an oath. I don’t understand why people wait for the New Year to start to resolve to better themselves.
To me, it is a daily process. Every time I find something I don’t like, I try to change it then and there. I don’t wait for the New Year to make changes.
I am always striving to be a happy, loving person. I happily love and enjoy my husband, mom, children, grandchildren, my work life and my free time.
Because of health issues, my free time is dear to me but I try to share that too, with helping mom or my volunteering at the Toppenish Visitors Center on Saturdays, or both and more.
Was this a resolution for me? Yes, but I didn’t wait for a new year to make it. I recycle at home and at work, another resolution, to help our Mother Earth.
I know volunteering at the visitors center will come to an end when spring comes, I will be working in my mom’s yard more, a resolution? Yes, but I didn’t wait for a new year to make it, I decided to just do it.
I have learned that giving of oneself makes you happier within and the more I give the happier I am.
I love the look on people’s faces when I can give, and I don’t expect anything in return.
I give because I can and I like too, it makes me feel better about myself and those I give to. If everyone could give without expecting something in return,
I believe happiness would begin within and when shared with others happiness grows outward.
Every morning as I look at myself in the mirror I see a cheerful person, so I make that my daily resolution. Besides that I like my happy, silly self so that helps, too.
Yes, there are days when I have to make a happy face at myself to start the happy feelings.
A happy voice on the phone makes my day, so I try to give a smile across the phone to all I talk to.
A smile costs nothing but can make your face brighter and your outlook better. I give what I have when I have it. If I don’t have it, I can’t give it. What more can a person ask of themselves?
Throughout my life I have done what I though was needed when it was needed, and when I could.
Sure there is more I could do, and more I will do when I have the time, resources and strength to do it. But, I firmly believe resolutions need to be done more than one time a year. Well, sure go ahead and start a new resolution. The New Year is a reason to better yourself, but why wait? Why not start now?
Give of yourself and you will learn the joy of giving daily. Look within and give without.
So my resolution this year is to give to others. I resolve to: Give to myself – happiness; give to my community – volunteer in something that makes me happy; recycle – and give back to the earth a little longer life; give to the world – it will be better for all of us.
If you find you are happier because of it, welcome to Hazel’s world, and don’t forget to start your resolutions within yourself.
It works. I did and I am happier for it. –HB
