SELAH 76, WAPATO 62
The Wapato Wolves were unable to put the clamps on Selah’s Nick Longmire and the Vikings were able to pull out a 76-62 CWAC league win in Selah on Tuesday, Dec. 22.  Longmire scored 29 points.  Wapato’s Matt Guevara was just as impressive as he was a constant thorn in Selah’s side scoring 30 points against the Vikings which kept the Wolves within striking distance the entire night.
However, Wapato had little double digit scoring from the rest of the team with Rigo Alvarado the only other Wapato player in double figures, scoring 11.  The Wolves were also hurt by costly turnovers, committed 22 turnovers, while Selah had 16.  Rebounding was even at 36 each.
In addition to Longmire, three other Vikings scored in double figures—6-4 Drew Washut scored 15; Kyle Fickes 13; and Mark Valencourt 12.
The game was actually closer than the final score.  Wapato was able to continually battle back, turnovers cost the team the game. They also had trouble at the free throw line and shot 60 percent (9 out of 15 attempts). Selah was able to capitalize in the bonus situation, going 78 percent from the line (21 out of 27 attempts).
Wapato’s league record is now even out at 2-2 while Selah is 3-1.
Wapato will continue league play on Friday, Jan. 8, as the travel to Othello, followed by a game at Prosser on Saturday, Jan. 9.

 EPHRATA 69,
TOPPENISH 44
One of the predicted top teams in the CWAC this year, Ephrata, had little trouble with Toppenish on the Tiger’s home court Tuesday, Dec. 22 overcoming the Wildcats 69-44.
Toppenish was held to single-digit scoring in three of four quarters by Ephrata.  Only one Wildcat was able to score in double figures, Ian Frank who had 14 points.  The Wildcats were unable to stop Ephrata’s Patrick Simon who scored 29 against them.
Toppenish resumes league action January 8 at home against Ellensburg and then travels to Selah the next night.

    WHITE SWAN 59,
RIVER VIEW 55
White Swan squeaked out a non-league win against a Class IA opponent Tuesday, Dec. 22 at River View, beating them 59-55.  White Swan is Class 2B.  They have yet to begin league play and continue with an impressive season record of 5 wins against only one loss.
Joel Yellow Owl had 27 points and 10 rebounds against the Panthers while teammate Cory Williams scored 14 points and had 6 rebounds.
