The first order of business at the Zillah City Council meeting on Monday, Jan. 4 was the swearing in of Zillah’s mayor and three council members.
Zillah City Clerk Sharon Bounds gave the oath of office to Mayor Gary Clark and council members Chad Crossley, Bob Gallagher and Jeff Miles. Clark and the council were all unopposed and retained their seats during the November general election.
Following the oath of office ceremony, Gallagher was re-elected as Mayor-Pro tem for 2010 by his fellow council.
In an otherwise short council meeting, the council passed its first resolution for 2010 – final approval of the Cutler Way Reservoir project. The city awarded the $944,734 project to CBI Services in Everett last summer. The project was completed in mid-December.
Due the council’s study session prior to the council meeting, Zillah School Superintendent Kevin McKay made a presentation on the School board’s proposed two-year maintenance and operations levy. The levy will be on the Feb. 9 ballot.
Council members approved the 2010 Zillah Planning board, which will be led by Doug Stewart.
