The White Swan Cougars had a very busy week playing three games in six days, all on the road.
The most important of the three games was the rematch on Saturday night, Feb. 6 at LaSalle’s Queen Gym against LaSalle where the Cougars pulled out a critical overtime win 69-65.
With the win, the Cougars remain unbeaten at 4-0 in the Mid-Valley 2B League.
On Monday, Feb. 1, they traveled to Klickitat and beat them by a score of 69-29 and then on Friday, Feb. 5 in another Mid-Valley 2B league encounter, they overwhelmed Lyle-Wishram 69-34.
Sophomore Lawrence Fiander had three outstanding games scoring a total of 49 points in three games.  Against LaSalle, he scored 24 points along with Joel Yellow Owl’s 19 points and 8 rebounds and Cory Williams’ strong showing of 17 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Cougars in the overtime victory.
Against Lyle-Wishram, White Swan was led by Fiander’s 16 points, Cory Williams’ 14 and Justin Williams’ 10 points.
Lyle-Wishram never challenged the Cougars and were held to mere 2 points in the third quarter.  Lyle-Wishram is winless (0-4) in league play.
In a non-league affair earlier in the week, the entire Cougar team scored against an outmanned Klickitat Vandal team 69-29.
The Vandals were unable to score in double-digits in any of the four quarters while balanced scoring came from  the entire White Swan team.
Fiander scored 9 points along with Tremain Fiander, Justin Williams, Cory Williams, and Yellow Owl who each scored 8 points.
The Cougars round out league play this weekend with home games against Riverside Christian on Friday night and then Lyle-Wishram on Saturday.
With the conclusion of league play, districts will begin with only one team from the Mid-Valley 2B qualifying for the state tournament in Spokane.
