WAPATO 77, SELAH 67
By virtue of a second place finish in CWAC league play, the Wapato Wolves had a bye and automatically qualified for a semi-final district game against Selah on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Wapato gym.  A win would qualify them for state and a loss would have placed them in the loser’s bracket.  The Wolves didn’t want to go into the loser’s bracket and were able to secure a state berth and the district championship game against top-ranked Ephrata next Saturday at Sunnyside at 5 p.m.  They beat Selah 77-67.
Efrain Reynoso was the big gun for Wapato scoring a team high 19 points against the Vikings.  Rigo Alvarado had 15 points while Matt Guevara returned from a knee injury suffered a month ago to score 12 points.  Senior Greg Strom also scored 11 points for the Wolves.
Wapato is 16-5 for the season as they begin preparations to play second-ranked Ephrata led by 6-10 Patrick Simon, who is already committed to play for Washington State University next year.  He scored 30 points and had 13 rebounds in Ephrata’s semi-final win over Grandview 83-67.

(SEMI-FINALS)
In a CWAC district play-in game on Tuesday, Feb. 23 in Wapato, the Lady Wolves eliminated Grandview 65-34 as A.J. Yarlott had a monster game scoring 18 points and pulling down 12 rebounds against the Lady Greyhounds.  Sammi Jo Blodgett scored 14 points and Hayley Strom had 13 points and seven rebounds.  The win moved Wapato into the first round of district play at Ephrata on Friday, Feb. 26.
At Ephrata, Yarlott again had a big night scoring 24 points to lead Wapato in the first round win over the Lady Tigers.  This eliminated Ephrata from the district tournament.  Strom added 16 points for Wapato in this win.  The win qualified the Wolves for a semi-final match against top-ranked East Valley.
Against East Valley in Wapato, the Wolves bid for state fell short 45-41 as they dropped the game to the Red Devils.  The loss placed them in a loser out game against Othello on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Wapato.
Strom led the Wolves with 15 points besides grabbing 9 rebounds.  Yarlott had 7 rebounds scoring 12 points in the loss.  Playing three games in five days seemed to take its toll out on Wapato as they were still able to place a scare into the sixth-ranked Red Devils.
