Daryel Charles “Pete” Zutter, of Toppenish passed away March 8, 2010 at the home he shared with his wife of 60 years.
Pete was born in Olema, WA on September 1, 1918, to Charles and Mattie (Frazier) Zutter.
He lived and worked most of his life in Toppenish, but as a young boy he and his family lived in Polson, MT.
He worked for Yakima Golding Hop Farms for 13 years, U & I Sugar Refinery, and operated his own small engine repair and lawn mower shop for many years in Toppenish.
Pete served in the Army Co. L-109th Infantry in WW2 from 1942-1945.
He loved deer hunting with his sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew and salmon fishing at Westport and Drano Lake with his buddy Cliff.
He rode with the Toppenish Outlaws horse club.
Pete is survived by his wife, Nina (Carrell), daughter Rosanne Brackney of Zillah and son Regan Zutter of Hooper, UT. Also many in-laws, nieces and nephews, including JoAnn (Bob) Bell of Toppenish and Cyndi (Mike) Merryman of Zillah, and Butch (Jan) Williams of Montana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters Gail Zutter and Vicki Lynn (Zutter) Counts, brothers Lewis and Lowell Eugene (Gene) Zutter and sister Phyllis (Carl) Williams.
We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Dottie and the volunteers with Memorial Hospital Transitions, Memorial Hospice care nurse Sarah, Olga and caregivers, Lower Valley nurse Cheryl and to Chaplain Lori for their support and guidance that helped make Pete’s last days comfortable and ours less sorrowful.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Yakima Human Society, your choice of local pet rescues, or the Toppenish Mural Society would be appreciated.
Services to be held at a later date.
