Yakima County Sheriff’s deputies have identified the body of a man discovered Thursday, April 15 in the Marion Drain canal near Highway 22 and South Track Road as 19-year-old Joseph John of Yakima.
According to Yakima County Sheriff’s deputies, an employee from the Bureau of Reclamation discovered John’s body while completing routine maintenance on a small diversion dam. Sheriff’s deputies reported the body had been in the canal for several months.
John has been missing since December when he was last seen with Fernando Figueroa, 20, also of Yakima. Figueroa’s body was recovered from the same canal in January. An autopsy showed Figueroa died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The Yakima County Coroner’s office has determined the case to be a homicide after discovering multiple bullet wounds on John’s body.
The case marks the 11th homicide of the year in Yakima County.
