Candidate filings opened this week for individuals seeking to run in the upcoming fall elections. Filings opened on Monday, June 7 and will continue through 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 11.
According to Yakima County elections officials, this year’s election will be another Top 2 Primary. Candidates for partisan offices will state a party preference or indicate they have no party preference.
Several races are already starting to heat up. In the Fourteenth District state representative’s race, Selah businesswoman Michele Strobel is challenging Norm Johnson. Yakima area businessman Mark Peterson is challenging longtime Yakima County auditor Corky Mattingly.
Local voters in Yakima County will also decide county positions in the assessor’s office, clerk’s spot, coroner, prosecutor, sheriff and treasurer.
