The Toppenish Pow Wow and Rodeo will be kicking up its heels again this year on the July 4 weekend.

The Toppenish Pow Wow and Rodeo will be kicking up its heels again this year on the July 4 weekend.
Toppenish Rodeo Board President Barb Moses said this year’s two-day event will be held July 2 and 3, and will be sanctioned by the Pro Western Rodeo Association and other sanctioning bodies.
“It will be a good show,” Moses said.
She said there would be a lot of local competitors as well as cowboys from out of town and cowboys who compete in rodeos sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
“PRCA cowboys will be there,” said Moses.
Competition will take place in eight events: steer wrestling, team roping, bull riding, bareback riding, saddle broncs, barrel racing, calf roping, and breakaway roping.
Barrel man for the rodeo will be George Kinter and Cody Hodge will be the announcer.
Participants in the Children’s Pow Wow will be Dancing for Diabetes during both days of the rodeo.
Dancing will begin at 6 p.m., Friday, July 2, and at 5 p.m., Saturday, July 3.
There will also be a number of vendors at the rodeo grounds, however, Moses said the board was not able to arrange for a carnival this year.
Moses expressed her appreciation for the community support and sponsorships that helped make the event possible this year.
“Without them, we wouldn’t be able to hold the rodeo,” Moses said.
She also said more volunteers are needed and encouraged anyone interested in participating to contact her at 509-949-5957.
The ticket office and gate will open at 5 p.m., July 2, and at 4 p.m. July 3.
The arena will open at 6:30 p.m. nightly and rodeo action will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets will be available at the gate, or by contacting the Toppenish Chamber of Commerce at 865-3262, Moses at 509-949-5957, or by email at topprodeo@gmail.com.
Ticket prices are adults 13 and older, $10 per day or $18 for a new two-day pass; youth 8 to 12 $6 per day or $10 for a new two-day pass.
Children 7 and under are free.
Parking at the grounds is $2, and general admission to the grounds is free.
Sponsors for the event are Coca Cola, Pacific Power, and Ideal Lumber and Hardware Supply in Toppenish.
