The Mabuhay Foundation will host its 10th annual golf tournament on Saturday, Aug. 7 at Black Rock Creek golf course in Sunnyside. The event will begin at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start of team foursomes.
Following the 18-hole golf tournament, participants will be guests at a Lechon (roast pig) awards feast. The dinner will also feature other specialty dishes and desserts prepared by the Mabuhay board and senior members of the local Filipino community.
The non-profit Mabuhay Foundation is dedicated to raising funds in support of the Filipino-American community in the Yakima Valley. Since its inception in 2001, the annual golf tournament proceeds help provide funding to the high school scholarship program, costumes and music for Bantag Wapato, the youth folk dancing group, as well as assistance to senior citizen events and historical archiving projects. Funds are also used to help in the preservation of the Filipino Community Hall in Wapato, which is the oldest Filipino-built hall in the United States.
