A Wapato woman died and a young Wapato girl was killed in separate car accidents on Tuesday, July 27.
According to officials from the Washington State Patrol, Diana K. Thompson, 29 died in a single vehicle accident at 11 a.m. on Highway 97.
Thompson was northbound on Highway 97 at milepost 42 when the 2000 Chevrolet Impala she was driving drifted to the right side of the roadway, went off the highway and rolled over.
Thompson was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene for injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
A two-year-old Wapato girl died after being struck by a car in the family’s driveway. According to WSP troopers, Yecica M. Sepulveda, 26, of Wapato had left her residence and was backing out if the driveway at West Wapato Avenue and East B Street. She was unaware the child had left the house and followed her to the vehicle. The 2002 GMC pickup Sepulveda was driving struck the young girl who was behind the pickup. The two-year-old died at the scene from injuries.
