New Miss Wapato, and court selected

WAPATO —Jessica Rae Arreola became the new Miss Wapato during the city’s centennial celebration over this past Labor Day weekend.
Arreola is a 17-year old senior at the local Wapato High School, and plans to pursue a career in esthetics in the fall of 2009.
She’s been an active member of the WHS Science and Engineering club, and is the club secretary and Associated Student Body secretary.
She’s been on the WHS honor roll for the past three years, was named student of the month for November 2007, and received the departmental award for foreign language.
She also earned a spot on the varsity tennis team.
She is the daughter of Maria Teresa and Art Rowland, Jr.
Arreola’s court are Katrina Shinn and Mayra Lopez.
Shinn is also a 17-year-old WHS senior, and plans to pursue a career as a high school teacher in the future.
She has completed her first year at Yakima Valley Community College in the Running Start program, and plans to graduate from WHS with an associate degree in arts and sciences from YVCC.
She is the daughter of Richard and Theresa Shinn.
Lopez is a 17-year-old WHS senior as well who also plans to pursue a career in the education field.
She has a cumulative grade point average of 3.8, and is taking advanced placement classes in English and calculus.
She served as Junior Class President, M.E.Ch.A. Vice President, and MESA Historian. She will be ASB Social Chairwoman this year, as well as M.E.Ch.A. Vice President and MESA Treasurer.
She’s on the cross-country team and varsity track, and is an active member of Bailadores Aztlan Group.
She is the daughter of Roberto and Lucia Lopez.
