Wapato 58, Quincy 39
Wapato girls basketball team cruised past Quincy at home defeating the Lady Jacks on Saturday. The Lady Wolves held Quincy to just four points in the 3rd quarter. Sammi Jo Blodgett led the way for Wapato with 12 points and seven assists. Briana Cordova and Justine Sosa chipped in 10 points each for Wapato who remain in second place (13-1) in the CWAC league with just one loss.
Toppenish 61, Othello 19
The Lady Wildcats picked up an easy victory against the visiting Othello Huskies Saturday. Toppenish’s quick defense held Othello to under 10 points in each quarter. Osiris Rodriguez had a game high 15 points as Belen Carriedo and Tara Bremer chipped in 10 points each for the Lady Wildcats who move to fourth place in the CWAC league with a (8-6) record.
Granger 59, Naches Valley 32
Granger jumped out to an early 15-6 lead in the first quarter of play Saturday evening, and they didn’t let up from there. The Spartans picked up their seventh league win against the Naches Valley Rangers. Granger’s Fantasia Reyes had a game high 16 points. Justine Benner paced the Rangers with 14 points and picked up her 1,000 point of her career.
White Swan 63, Warden 26
It was all Cougars Saturday night as the visiting White Swan Cougars went face to face against the Warden Cougars. Once tipoff started it was obvious, the White Swan Lady Cougars were on fire Saturday as they picked up their 13th win of the season. Their offense was commendable, but White Swans defense was immaculate, keeping Warden from scoring a single point in the second quarter. Amber Jones was the games high scorer with 23 points for White Swan

Colby L. Saluskin (31) of White Swan passed away Thursday January 26, 2012.
He was born in Toppenish on March 26, 1980 to Ronald and Josephine (Solomon) Saluskin; and was raised in White Swan and educated in Harrah, White Swan and Toppenish.
Colby worked as a commercial fisherman.
He is survived by his father, Ronald Saluskin of White Swan; three children; Samantha, Vanessa and Sean all of White Swan; his grandmothers, Gladys Saluskin of Toppenish and Norma Solomon of Bellingham; a brother, Tallon of Toppenish; two sisters, Shawntay of Wapato and Gabrielle of Seattle.
Overnight services were held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Toppenish Community Center.
Funeral services was Saturday at McCoy Cemetery, east of Toppenish.

Rebecca Ann Wilson, 65, of Zillah passed away Saturday January 28 at Yakima Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of the Toppenish Eagles #2229 and also worked there as a custodian and door attendant.
She lived in the Yakima Valley for over 50 years.
Survivors include 3 sisters, Bettie Hinchey of Harrison, AR., Nancy Younger of Zillah and Carol Clark of Spokane.
No services are scheduled, there will be a memorial service planned at a later date.
Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in care of the arrangements.

Toppenish Rodeo seeks Pow Wow proposals

The Toppenish Rodeo and Livestock Association is requesting proposals from any organization, committee or group willing to provide a traditional Pow Wow to the Toppenish Rodeo Grounds during the Toppenish Rodeo on Friday and Saturday, July 6-7, 2012.

Naches Valley 70, Granger 65
Granger lost a close one in overtime Saturday evening. Facing the Naches Valley Rangers, the Spartans went into the locker-room down 28-19 at halftime. Granger came back to tie the game at the end of regulation play as Esau Cervantes scored the hoop to send the contest into overtime The Rangers turned out to be the stronger team outscoring Granger 16-11 in the extra period of play. Andrew Reddout from Granger was high point man with 28 points
Toppenish 77, Othello 46
The Wildcats took control of their home court against the visiting Othello Huskies. Ahead by three heading into the second half, Toppenish burst past the huskies outscoring them 24-10 in the third quarter. Kyle Jamison had a game high 24 points, Randy Isadore netted 17 points, and Sal Gudino pitched in 12 points to push Toppenish’s record to a league leading (12-2) and (13-3) overall.
Wapato 69, Quincy 46
The Wolf Pack defeated the Quincy Jacks. Wapato jumped out to a 29-20 at the half. The Wolves didn’t look back as they continued with the same effort they had in the first two quarters to outscore Quincy 69-46 as the final buzzer sounded. Wapato’s Ozzie George racked up a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Shawn Craig chipped in 17 points and Gibby Patterson added 13 points. The win pushes Wapato’s record to 10-4 league ad (11-5) overall.
White Swan 64, Warden 50
The White Swan Cougars are a force to be reckoned with. The Cougars, who were visiting home-court Warden, pushed their undefeated record in the league to (7-0) defeating Warden 63-26. White Swan’s Lawrence Fiander had a game high 27 points, while Johnny Zuniga helped out with 12 points.

Spaghetti supper

Liberty Community Church will be having a spaghetti dinner on Sunday, Feb., 12 at 7 p.m.
The money raised will go toward sctuctural repairs on the 85 year old church. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for chldren 12 and under.
The church is located at 670 Liverty Road, just North of the intersection of Van Belle and Liberty in Granger.

The Washington State Temperance & Good Citizenship Day is outlined in (Revised Washington Code) RCW 28A.230.150:
“On January 16th of each year or the preceding Friday when January 16th falls on a non-school day, there shall be observed within each public school “Temperance and Good Citizenship Day”. Zillah High School follows the Washington State RWC by honoring students who exemplify good citizenship in their classrooms, activities, programs and community. ZHS solicits nominations from teachers, coaches, advisors, parents, community members and ZHS students. Nominations are reviewed and students meeting the criteria are then recognized with a certificate presented in a school assembly honoring good citizenship on Friday, January 13, 2012.
