    Zillah set for annual market

    The annual Not-Just-A-Farmers Market is coming on Saturday, Sept. 6 to Zillah.

    The event will be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. in the city’s downtown area. The market will include entertainment, food, fresh local produce, crafts, and a variety of other unique items for sale.

    Admission is free of charge.

    Crime Watch meeting in Harrah

    The Harrah Crime Watch Committee is having a meeting Tuesday, Aug. 26th at 7:15 p.m. at the Harrah Café.

    TMS registration

    Toppenish Middle School registration and orientation will be held Aug. 25-28, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on all days.

    The schedule is as follows:
    Sixth grade, Aug. 25, for Kirkwood and Garfield students; Aug. 26, for Valley View and Lincoln students.
    Seventh grade, Aug. 27, eighth grade, Aug. 28. 

    THS class of ’58 plans reunion

    The Toppenish High School Class of 1958 will hold its 50th reunion Sept. 20, at 6 p.m., at the Yakima Howard Johnson’s.

    Organizers have been unable to locate: George Castenada, Larry Cummings, Duane Field, Bob Fike, Annette Harn, Jean Hunt, Kent Jensen, Nellie Lamebull, Shirley Mosqueda, Mike Nunez, Juanita Raines, and Frances Roybal.

    Food handlers’ class in Wapato

    The Wapato Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a food-handlers’ class at the CAD*LAC Center at 209 S. Wapato in Wapato, Friday, Aug. 1, from 3 to 4 p.m.

    Yakima County Health District requires a food-handler’s card for anyone working in a restaurant or food service. Training includes topics like proper cooking temperatures, hot-holding, cold-holding and cooling of potentially hazardous foods; cross-contamination prevention; and proper hand-washing techniques.

    Cost is $10 per person plus photo I.D., and 20 people need to register, or the class will be cancelled.

    Cards are good for two years, three if you bring an unexpired card.

    Training and tests are available in English and Spanish.

    Zillah Lakes hearing set

    The owners of Zillah Lakes Development property have requested that the northern portion of the development be annexed into the city of Zillah.

    A hearing is set before the city of Zillah Planning Commission on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 7 p.m., in the city of Zillah Council Chambers located at 111 7th St. in Zillah.

    The public is invited to attend and offer testimony.

    The Planning Commission is expected to issue a recommendation to the city council.

    The city council will then consider the recommendation on Monday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m.

    The public is again invited to attend and offer testimony regarding the application.

    Eastern Star Grand Matron to visit Toppenish

    The Order of the Eastern Star’s Worthy Grand Matron Diane Osborne will visit the Illihee Chapter July 30, at 7:30 p.m., at the Toppenish Masonic Temple at 12 E. 3rd St.

    The Chapter will also be presenting two 50-year membership pins during the special meeting.

    There will be a salad potluck at 5 p.m. for the Grand Officers and anyone else who would like to come.


    Zillah Churches hold Vacation Bible School

    Zillah’s Christian Worship Center, Valley Covenant Community Church, Church of the Nazarene and Faith Community Church have come together to hold vacation Bible School for kids 4 years old through 6th grade.

    The study will be held July 28th thru August 1st at Zillah Church of the Nazarene from 6:30 to 8:45 every evening Monday thru Friday.  For more information

    Free Concert at Railroad Park

    The Yakima Valley Community Band will perform a free concert at Railroad Park in Toppenish Thursday, July 31, at 7 p.m.
    Bring your own chairs or blankets for festival lawn seating.

    Health Fair this Saturday in Zillah

    The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center will be organizing a Health Fair this Saturday at Stewart Park in Zillah. The park is located at 107 1st Avenue, and the event will run from 1-5 p.m.

    The event will include free food, raffles and activities for adults and children. There will also be free health information and diabetes screening.
