    COLBY L. SALUSKIN

    Colby L. Saluskin (31) of White Swan passed away Thursday January 26, 2012.

    He was born in Toppenish on March 26, 1980 to Ronald and Josephine (Solomon) Saluskin; and was raised in White Swan and educated in Harrah, White Swan and Toppenish.

    Colby worked as a commercial fisherman.

    He is survived by his father, Ronald Saluskin of White Swan; three children; Samantha, Vanessa and Sean all of White Swan; his grandmothers, Gladys Saluskin of Toppenish and Norma Solomon of Bellingham; a brother, Tallon of Toppenish; two sisters, Shawntay of Wapato and Gabrielle of Seattle.

    Overnight services were held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Toppenish Community Center.

    Funeral services was Saturday at McCoy Cemetery, east of Toppenish.


    REBECCA ANN WILSON

    Rebecca Ann Wilson, 65, of Zillah passed away Saturday January 28 at Yakima Regional Medical Center. 
     
    She was a member of the Toppenish Eagles #2229 and also worked there as a custodian and door attendant.

    She lived in the Yakima Valley for over 50 years. 

    Survivors include 3 sisters, Bettie Hinchey of Harrison, AR., Nancy Younger of Zillah and Carol Clark of Spokane. 

    No services are scheduled, there will be a memorial service planned at a later date.

    Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in care of the arrangements.  




    WALTER GLEN SCHICK

    Walter Glen Schick, age 83, went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2012.  Glen was born in Lafeyette, Ohio on July 26, 1927 to Cloyde and Mildred Schick.

    Glen lived in Ohio for many years until 1978, when he met his wife Joyce. 

    In 1979, Glen and Joyce opened their hearts and home to provide a loving home for foster children.

    Glen is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joyce Schick, his sister, Arlene (Merlin) Gerdeman; brother, Howard (Colleen) Schick; sons, Loren Schick and Brandon Schick; 1 grandson; and a great-grandson.

    He is also survived by his step-children, Teresa, Billy, Debbie, Gwen, Shelby, Kevin and Robin as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many beloved foster children who lovingly call him “Pops”.

    Glen was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth, one nephew and his step-daughter, Cynthia.

    Funeral services were Friday, January 27, 2012 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Glen was laid to rest following the service at the Zillah City Cemetery.

    BARBARA “BOBBIE” ANN ZYPH


    Barbara “Bobbie” Ann Zyph, 68, passed away peacefully in her home January 23, 2012. 

    She was born February 8, 1943 to E.W. and Myrtle Morris in Moses Lake.  The family later moved to the Lower Valley where Bobbie attended Buena Elementary and Toppenish High School. 

    She married Donald E. Zyph March 24, 1961.

    She worked as a waitress, truck driver, field worker, cook, kitchen manager Mt. Adams Country Club, she bartended at many taverns, and was bartender and manager at LittleJohn’s Tavern in Toppenish.

    Bobbie is survived her daughter Angela (Brad) Morrow of St. Helens, Ore.: five sons, Marty (Lisa) Zyph of Toppenish, Dennis Zyph of Ridgefield, Dan (Leticia) Zyph, of Toppenish, Andy Zyph, of Satus,  and D.J. Zyph of Toppenish; three brothers, Gene (Sharon) Morris of Kennewick, Jim Morris of Phoenix and Jack (Norma) Morris of Yakima; three sisters, Norma (Ed) Sisson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Virginia (Steve) Heether of Yakima and Nancy (Jerry) Voorhies of George; 15 grandchildren,  three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also her three best friends, Shirley Windsor, Phyllis Vance and Polly Wolfie

    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, a sister, Dorothy Trollinger, and two brothers Ed and Joe Morris.

    Funeral Services were at Valley Hills funeral Home in Zillah on Saturday, January 28, 2012 with burial following at the Zillah City Cemetery.

    HENRY LEE "HANK" SMITH

    Henry Lee "Hank" Smith (86) of Toppenish passed away at his home on Sunday Janaury 29, 2012.

    He was born in Hugo, OK on October 21, 1925 to Jake and Susie (Buster) Smith.

    Hank served in the U.S. Army in the 1940's and moved to the Yakima Valley after his service commitment.

    He worked as a ranch and farm laborer.

    Mr. Smith is survived by five daughters, Carol Linstad of Yakima, Chris Mitzel of Vancouver, Kathy (Kelvin) Crawford of Myrtle Creek, OR, Tammy (Art) Thompson of Outlook and Connie (LeRoy) Lenseigne of Moxee; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his son, Henry.

    A memorial service will be held on Thursday February 2, 2012 at 2PM in Toppenish.




    HILDA R. KROLL

    Hilda R. Kroll (80) of Toppenish passed away on January 18, 2012 in Toppenish.

    She was born in Driscoll, ND on January 14, 1932 to Edward and Mary (Albright) Roemmich.

    Hilda was raised and educated in North Dakota and moved to the Yakima Valley where she and her husband owned and operated a produce farm and grew hay.

    She also worked for Stadlemans in Zillah sorting and packing fruit.

    Hilda is survived by two children, Patricia and Gary Kroll both of Toppenish; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three brothers and eight sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond and three sons, Calvin, David and John.
    A memorial service will be at a later date.





    THEODORE F. TRAINER

    Msgt. (USAF Ret.) Theodore F. Trainer, passed away Saturdy, January 14, 2012 in Spanaway, WA after a brief battle with cancer.

    He was born on August 8, 1939 in great Falls, MT. Ted grew up in Wapato and attended Wapato High School.

    He joined the Air Force at age 18 and retired 26 years later.

    Special thanks to Franciscan Hospice and the caregivers from Visiting Angels for their excellent care. We are also thankful to our longtime neighbors who cared and comforted Ted throughout his illness.

    Memorial servces will be held at Fir Lane Memorial Park in Spanaway on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 2 p.m. There will be a graveside service with Military honors. A reception will follow.




    CHARLIE L. WILKINSON

    Charlie L. Wilkinson (70) of Yakima passed away in Yakima on January 16, 2012.

    He was born in Oregon City, OR on March 3, 1941 to William and Belva (Richardson) Wilkinson.

    Charlie worked for U & I Sugar for many years and served in the National Guard.

    He is survived by his daughter, Tanya Wilkinson of Wapato and numerous other relatives.

    At his request no services will be held at this time.

    SHIRLEE D. SPENCER

    Shirlee D. Spencer born on July 4, 1936, passed away January 14, 2012 at the age of 75 years, after a courageous 3 month battle with cancer.

    She was born and raised in White Swan, by her beloved grandmother the late Ollie Spencer.

    She attended school in White Swan till her 9th grade year, of which she transferred to Saint Euphrasia Catholic School in Seattle, and graduated in May-1954.

    After graduating, Shirlee worked  for the Seattle Post Intelligencer and attended college at Seattle University.

    After returning home to White Swan, Shirlee also attended and graduated from the Yakima Business College in May-1974.

    Shirlee was the daughter of the late James Moses Spencer, and Dorothy Estimo of Toppenish.

    She was married to the late Thomas Gerald Spegar from Seattle., then to the late Melvin Miller Sr. of Wapato, and then finally to the late Frank Andrew Spencer from Toppenish.

    Shirlee was as a devoted Catholic.

    Her children include the late Richard Allen Spencer, Raymond A. Spencer (Tina Louise), James F. Spencer, Byron R. Spencer, Renee F. Spencer, and Serena R. Spencer; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    A special recognition also goes out to Harry & Jeanne Smiskin for all their help in her time of need, many friends and family members, as well as the Hospice RN’s Sheila L. and Olga,all who were both supportive and loving to her during her final days.

    During her life Shirlee worked for the Yakama Nation Review as a reporter from 1970-1984; Mt. Adams Furniture Factory 1989-1992; Yakama Nation Cultural Resources 1993-1997; Legends Casino 1998-2012.

    Shirlee was preceded in death by her eldest son Richard A. Spencer, (father) James Moses Spencer, (mother) Dorothy Estimo, (Grandmother) Ollie Spencer.

    Friends and family are invited to attend the dressing services on Wednesday, Janaury 21, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on Thursday, January 22, 2012 at 10AM. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
